How I work
Are you currently feeling stuck in a vicious cycle? Lost? Low? The simplest and yet hardest thing to do a lot of the time is talk about it.
That's where I come in, as I like to provide clients with a space and therapeutic relationship that feels accepting, non-judgemental, compassionate, neutral, and safe, with the hope for them to feel free to explore their behaviours, thoughts and emotions. Through continued sessions, it can facilitate gaining some new forms of self awareness, some new tools and some new coping strategies, to the difficulties that are impacting them.
I like to think counselling is a place you come when feeling like you're in a dark room. I as the therapist can then become the torch in your hand, helping illuminate parts you can't yet see or understand.
Specifics:
I offer talking therapy and I have had a variety of clients; from someone who was seeking asylum, to someone who was registered blind.
I like to offer an inclusive setting with both short and open ended therapy options.
I have worked extensively with a charity that provides support for anyone that has suffered from sexual/domestic abuse.
As we are complex beings, I have gained experience with stress/anxiety, depression, loss/grief, childhood/generational trauma, dissociative identity disorder, PTSD, OCD, self harm, addiction, imposter syndrome, homelessness, feeling different through neurodivergence, race, culture, class and so forth.
I am trained as an ‘integrative therapist’ and I work with anyone from the age of 16 years and above. The integrative model I follow integrates parts of the psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. This means I have a theoretical background in psychological theory, which unpacks the subconscious and provides a structural framework/skillset to work from, alongside, nurturing humanistic elements which provide conditions I uphold (empathy, authenticity and normalising). Both parts help enable a well-rounded, wholesome practise.
My training means my approach is also trauma-informed. This helps to minimise retraumatising and reinforce a client-led practise, where the client sets the pace. I additionally can offer some interventions/grounding techniques to aid disassociation, detachment and the hyper arousal states that often manifest with trauma.
I have undertaken continued professional development training in the following topics:
· Strengthening Support for Male Survivors of Sexual Assault & Domestic Abuse
· Trauma and Addiction
· Neurodiversity and Trauma
· Introduction to homelessness
· Understanding and working with Sexual Trauma
· Domestic Abuse Awareness
· Imposter Syndrome
